After a few restarts to complete the upgrade, the Server Manager would crash on start up. After much Googling, I found the resolution to that problem was simple \u2013 install .NET 4.7.2. <\/p>\n<p>That resolved the crashing of the Server Manager (and other MMCs).<\/p>\n<p>Then once that was resolved and I was able to launch the Server Manager, I got the warning exclamation &#8211; the Server Manger would \u2018fail automatic refresh\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mikemartinezonline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/clip_image002.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"362\" height=\"217\" title=\"clip_image002\" style=\"display: inline; background-image: none;\" alt=\"clip_image002\" src=\"https:\/\/mikemartinezonline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/clip_image002_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When I expanded on any of the effected services the error box read \u201cOnline \u2013 Data Retrieval failed\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The following is the result of clicking on the yellow notification flag and expanding details.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mikemartinezonline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/clip_image004.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"354\" height=\"198\" title=\"clip_image004\" style=\"display: inline; background-image: none;\" alt=\"clip_image004\" src=\"https:\/\/mikemartinezonline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/clip_image004_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For more information I went to Event Viewer-Application and Services Logs-Microsoft-Windows-ServerManager-ManagementProvider operational log. There was the following warning<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGeneric failure querying the localized name for channel: Microsoft-Windows-DxpTaskRingtone-Analytic [hResult = Function failed during execution., hLastResult = The system cannot find the file specified.]\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>When I attempted to open the DxpTaskRingtone Operational log it reported the log was either corrupted or not present. After doing some research I found this log is created from the following key in the registry.<\/p>\n<p>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\WINEVT\\Channels\\Microsoft-Windows-DxpTaskRingtone\/Analytic<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mikemartinezonline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/clip_image006.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"362\" height=\"91\" title=\"clip_image006\" style=\"display: inline; background-image: none;\" alt=\"clip_image006\" src=\"https:\/\/mikemartinezonline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/clip_image006_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The registry values did not look corrupted but I backed up (exported to a folder) the key and then deleted it. Closed and then opened\/refreshed Server Manager and everything is green.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mikemartinezonline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/clip_image008.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"341\" height=\"208\" title=\"clip_image008\" style=\"display: inline; background-image: none;\" alt=\"clip_image008\" src=\"https:\/\/mikemartinezonline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/clip_image008_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now all good.<\/p>\n<p>If you wish to verify this is in fact the issue you can re-import the exported key and sure enough the error will return.
